Staithes Holidays - Reviews
We had a wonderful time at Old Jack's Cottage, so peaceful and cosy. It was perfect for the two of us and our small spaniel - we loved sitting outside watching the world go by. I haven't slept so well in months and didn't want to leave. Jackie is a fantastic host and really made us feel welcome.

Beautiful location, book last minute and Jackie was really responsive on any questions.
Everyone was really friendly when your walking around- the local bars and pubs have amazing food .
Open fire in the cottage makes it after a loverly day to settle in the evening and watch the sea views from the window.
Will book again!

Loved our stay in Old Jack’s Cottage. It was cosy, quirky, and full of character. Our dog loved lying in front of the open fire in the evenings. Great base to explore Staithes and the surrounding countryside. Beautiful to watch the sunrise in the morning and the ever changing tides. Thank you to Jackie who was very responsive for any queries we had.

I booked this stay as a Christmas present for my parents and they had a lovely time at the cottage. Jackie made the booking really easy and gave me all the information they’d need. The cottage is lovely with beautiful views and really close to everything you’d need in the village. They’ll be booking again soon!

I must congratulate Jackie for keeping the cottage so quaint and unspoilt. My Grandma used to live there and it still had the cosy feeling that was always there. Jackie was knowledgeable and we had family and friends in common and she also checked that I was warm and comfortable. I believe I have made a friend in Jackie and am sure we will have lot's more conversations when I come back to stay in the summer. Thank you Jackie, I had a wonderful peaceful time.

We had a wonderful time in Old Jacks Cottage in a cold November stay!
Taking advantage of the open fire at night was definitely a good choice and made the stay more atmospheric to the surroundings in this old coastal town.
Staithes is small and beautiful, lovely to walk around with very steep hill climbs or a bracing walk on the Cowbar where you can look out to the North Sea and see Dogger Bank. Or on the beach on the other side of the inlet and sit and watch the moon over the water from the benches then head into the Cod & Lobster for a warming bevvy or hearty Cod and Chips!
Betsy and Bo’s sell lovely food and treats to take back to devour by the fire in the evening before or after a walk listening to the water in the beck or the roar of the sea.
Old Jacks is delightfully higgledy piggledy in nature, lots of things are on a slope and sometimes different ones so you almost can feel like being in a boat bobbing in the beck at times.
We hope to return to lovely Staithes one day.

Cosy, tastefully decorated little cottage with a stunning view. Check in was really easy, although parking on the steep hill was a bit exciting, the instructions were clear. The cottage was well appointed with everything we needed for a cosy autumn weekend, walking the costal paths and exploring the delightful village of Staithes. Plus the mattress on the bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept on!

Jackie is the most responsive host ever! Very clear and accurate instructions.
The cottage is absolutely tiny but very cosy and comfortable. Very warm & clean. Amazing location!
A few treats on arrival would put it up a level - even just some milk.
Otherwise all lovely and enjoyable.

My partner and I adored our stay at Old Jack's. We were keen to visit the sea and loved the retained authenticity of the fisherman's cottage. We ended up caught in the middle of a storm, but had amazing atmospheric views of the sea just around the corner, and cafes, pubs and the independent convenience store just minutes away. The cottage remained cozy and warm despite the weather, and it was especially lovely to come home and relax by the fire. My partner commented that it was the cleanest and tidiest place she'd ever stayed! We will definitely return to this perfect little getaway spot.

Jackie’s place is absolutely delightful. We felt at home the minute we walked through the door. The view from each of the windows is breathtaking. The cottage was beautifully clean and well equipped. The ambience was really unique - it felt las if we had time travelled to another era, but had kept all mod cons to make our stay comfortable. We are already planning our return trip as we have fallen in love with Staithes and Jackie’s place too!

Old Jack’s is the perfect place to rest, retreat and remind yourself of the simple, good things in life. This was a last minute booking for me and my border collie Monty and we both loved our time here….morning walks on the beach were a treat, as was coffee on the bench with the ever changing postcard views and the open fire in the evening. The parking spot felt like a real luxury and we slept like logs. Jackie is a great host, everything was straightforward and we loved the old time charm of both the cottage and Staithes. Highly recommend.

Tiny cottage, full of character. Great location with wonderful views of the harbour. Peaceful and serene the perfect spot to sketch or just sit and watch the tide come in and go out. The cottage was well equipped and an open fire was a bonus. We certainly enjoyed curling up by the fire with a book and a glass of wine. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return one day.

Having stayed at the Fisherman's cottages on previous occasions, we were familiar with what to expect. Always to a very high standard and excellent for that short break. We both absolutely love Staithes and find its tranquillity captivating.
The price hike seemed a little excessive hence the lower rating but we both needed a reset and paid the piper. Also, we were disappointed with the recent negative Yorkshire Life article about the village but that has no detraction on what Jackie and the team offer.
Another excellent stay and we look forwards to our next one in the future. We would always highly recommend Jackie's Fisherman's Cottages. Cheers

What a fantastic cottage, small and perfectly formed, and bursting with character.
The location was perfect, just a short hop over the footbridge to the village, and the bench in the front garden is the perfect spot to watch the world go by.
Excellent communication from Jackie from the start helped make it a perfect place to stay.
I have an inkling we'll be returning.
Thank you.

Amazing! lovely cottage with everything that we needed in a perfect location. We had a great time. Jackie was quick to respond to all our questions.
Lots of things to do in the area, for all ages. it seemed like a safe place for children to wander within close eye of their parents.
if (when) I visit again, I will remember my binoculars (were they dolphins swimming out at sea?) my fishing rod (mackerel being caught off the harbour wall) and will buy a fossil hammer. so many great things to do and a beautiful area for walking 🩵

Very cute cottage, full of character! My husband and I enjoyed waking up to gorgeous views and sounds. The place was clean and instructions were helpful. Food nearby is amazing, so that was a plus.
Parking is not as convenient as we thought since the cottages are on a slope and could definitely be a little challenging if there are multiple luggage pieces.

What a wonderful little cottage, stunning views and easy access to the village of Staithes.
Perfect place for a relaxing time away. The cottage was clean and everything that you would need is at the he property.
Perhaps some milk in the fridge and tea and coffee would be nice if you are arriving after the shops in the village have closed.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.

Our first air BnB, really impressed, great location, steep hill gives great view. Cute, quaint cottage, quirky street appears on many of the village postcards. Clean & comfy sofa and bed, everything we needed and good shower, perfect bolt hole for 1 or 2. Open fire lit every night - didn’t want to leave.

Fisherman's Cottage is a tiny charming cottage on a sharply inclined street with outstanding views of an inlet and the harbor. The spotlessly clean cottage is extremely comfortable (although the upstairs double bed was a little soft for these two Americans), the kitchen fully equipped, the linens fresh, and there is plenty of hot water. It was very quiet. For us, one prime feature was its easy access to the Cleveland Way, an outstanding hiking trail that follows the breathtaking coast. The town itself is spectacular, and the cottage's location provided ideal access. Finally, the owners were extremely generous and responsive.

Fisherman's Cottage no.4 was in a fabulous location in the pretty fishing village of Staithes. The cottage was exactly what we expected for a one double bed fisherman's cottage, very quaint but had all the amenities & was very clean, great views of the river to the sea, from the windows.
Staithes has some very good eating places & also a regular bus service to Whitby
Thank you Jackie, we had a lovely relaxing week away, with numerous, quite hilly walks.

We had a lovely stay at Fishermans Cottage just after Easter. The cottage is well maintained, small but perfect for 2. Kitchen and bathroom were clean and we had good water pressure/ plenty of hot water. Wifi was great too. Heaters in bedroom and the living room are great as it was a chilly few days.
Location! Oh my goodness. Fabulous! Steps from the village, steps from the sea, overlooking beck, on the path of Cleveland Way . Very steep / narrow but we parked outside using the permit.
Staithes is amazing, everything you could want for a holiday - great beach, harbour, glorious views, coffee shops , cafes and pubs ( we drank in King George and ate at Cod and Lobster ( book if you can)
Communication was great with owners and , once there, the lady who manages the property too.

We have just had 2 nights in the Fisherman’s cottage for my birthday in Staithes and we didn’t want to leave!
It is the most gorgeous little house with so much history. And the location is perfect.
We ate at the cod and lobster one night and also had a drive along to Sandsend to go to the fish cottage which was gorgeous.
Thank you for the best stay

Old Jack's Cottage is in a fantastic location, just over the footbridge from the main village centre with great views down the beck to the harbour. Whilst the accommodation is small, especially the kitchen this is described on the listing and we found it fine for us (two adults & a labrador). The open fire was great, making it lovely and snug in the evenings. The parking permit was waiting for us in the cottage, once unloaded we parked at the bottom of the road at the harboud next to the RNLI station where there is more space, just a 100 yards or so.

No issues regarding communication with the host prior to stay. Found the house and parking without any concerns with parking permite hassle free.
Fantastic and easy to use heating system and information regarding the open fire made the stay very relaxing.
Wonderful views from bedroom and outside the front door with its own bench to appreciate the surrounding area.
The information book in the house as plenty of area of interest and walks, the local museum is well worth a visit and so are all the shops and the local pub is busy but this is to be expected when the food and hospitality is excellent.
Deco suits the ambiance of the house and is well worth another visit.
Fantastic stay and thank you very much.

Fisherman's Cottage was a fabulous wee place. Although we're from the North East and mid-50's, we've never been to Staithes before. What a lovely little gem it is and Jackie's place was absolutely champion for the wife, our dog and me. Great location on the quiet side of the village looking onto the beck, a very short stroll to all the village has to offer. Open fire was very much liked and we lit it every night - back to childhood We have a large car and parked on the jetty at the bottom of the hill instead of outside the door, no problems there whatsoever. Couple of good pubs, nice wee selection of shops and other eateries. Stayed 3 nights and travelled around both full days we had there, lovely walks around and about the village with the dog. Met Jackie on arriving and she was very helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. All in all, a fabulous break and we will return. Alison, John and Misti from Northumberland

Absolutely amazing place, the location is perfect and the cottage was exactly what we wanted, cosy and homely! The coal fire definitely made it for us!
The bed was so comfortable and we had everything we needed for cooking!
If you're looking for ultra modern this isn't the place but if it's a bit of character, stunning views and a homely place this is the one!
Everything was so easy and Mandy really helped with getting us coal and logs, it felt like nothing was too much trouble.
We absolutely loved it and can't wait to come back!
Thanks again for all your help.

We enjoyed a brief break post New Year. It was very peaceful and relaxing and the dog loved it. Amazing location for walking parts of the Cleveland Way. If walking’s not possible bus services are currently only £2 single until 31/3/23 into Whitby and all along the NY coast. A fabulous break in an incredible location. And awaaaaaay....

we loved Old Jack's Cottage... picture perfect views and cosy little place just right for two. Sun on the Cottage in the morning, so a great spot for your morning cuppa. everywhere in Staithes is a stone's throw, including the Cod and Lobster pub, if you can grab a seat outside the views are fab. we parked down the bottom (near RNLI Station) rather than outside the cottage as our car doesn't like being parked on a slope!

Old Jack’s Cottage was the perfect little cottage. I was delighted at how well stocked the tiny kitchen was - we prepared meals in as well as ate out.
My daughters were beside themselves with excitement at staying there and it was the perfect location for exploring lovely Staithes. We went out for pre-breakfast walks, everyone was so friendly and it was just a lovely couple of days.
And we well and truly put the automatic handbrake to the test - glad for the option to park down on the Staithe!

Full of character, quirky, lived in. Small one bedroom old fisherman's cottage, in a fantastic position, beautiful views from the bench outside, which is a perfect place to have a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine..Great hot shower and comfy bed.. Tiny kitchen area, but quite ok for making breakfast/drinks/snacks..We ate out anyway, so it was absolutely fine for us. I had a wonderful week at this charming cottage in a fantastic location. The cottage had everything I needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. Sitting on the bench outside with a cuppa and a book, watching the world go by, was great, as was following the Cleveland way down the coast to Runswick Bay and back, and up the coast to Skinningrove and back. Altogether a lovely time. I can highly recommend this as a place to stay, especially to lone travellers or couples.

The cottage is small and cosy and in a lovely location. We loved sitting on the bench outside in the morning with a cup of tea or in the evening with a glass of wine as the view across Staithes towards the sea is superb. The facilities were good although we didn't spend a lot of time indoors as we were walking up and down the coast every day. You can walk up or down the coast from Staithes along the Cleveland Way. There is a good bus service along the coast so you don't need to do circular walks. The X4 runs between Whitby and Middlesborough, stopping in Staithes, and gives you good options to walk from A to B along the coast and get the bus back to the car.
We didn't cook as we used take-away options. There is a really good fish and chip shop (Excelsior) at the top of the village just off the main road, Cobbles cafe does a pizza take-away on Thursday and we had a good pie and chips meal at the Royal George pub. Incidentally, grab a table outside the Royal George for a drink on a sunny afternoon/early evening as it's a sun trap. We had another very good meal at the Cod and Lobster pub (which also does a take-away menu) and for something to keep you going if you are hiking, the butcher does excellent home-made pork pies and sausage rolls!
Having a parking space outside is really useful and I can recommend the Kangaroo hand car wash in Easington who must get a lot of business thanks to the seagulls! If you are a light sleeper, you may prefer to bring a fan and keep the bedroom window closed in summer as seagulls start the dawn chorus at about 4am but that is part and parcel of staying on the coast.
Communication was excellent and there is someone in the village to contact in case of problems although we were fine. We loved our stay!

Perfect location for a break in Staithes. The cottage is located on a steep incline but the positioning means the views are amazing! Also you are located on the Cleveland Way, great for walkers / runners.
The cottage sits really well and is ideal for a couple or single person and after talking to our neighbours it is in demand. We chose this cottage mainly as it was featured in BBCs Gone Fishing. I read previous comments about parking outside the cottage but can confirm we parked a VW Golf and our neighbours had a Range Rover Evoque with no problems even when the bin lorry came past. The parking space and permit is a huge bonus.
The cottage is pleasantly laid out and the kitchen is ideal and the washing machine and dryer are an added bonus as I was able to rinse out my running clothes after an early morning run. The seating area at the front of the cottage is a great place to unwind and watch the world go by and it has the sun most of the day. The only downside was the size of the sink in the bathroom as it was very small and the hot water came from a separate unit attached to the wall which I found sprayed out and made a simple face wash a task.
You are a stones throw from the main area of Staithes and a couple of nice cafes - Cobbles of Staithes and Dotty’s. Both offer eat in or take away. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would recommend staying at the cottage especially if you like originality and want to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

What a gorgeous house and the view from the window each morning was just so lovely. I had a wee solo-holiday here to do some writing, reading, and re-setting and it was perfect for just that. I made good use of the Cod & Lobster restaurant which is about a 4 minute walk and also Cobbles for takeaway coffees, and I enjoyed wandering around all the winding streets and walking up to sit on the benches at the top of the hill that look out over the water and down on the village. Just lovely. Parking is quite tricky on the hill, be warned, so I’m very glad the permit allowed for parking at the pier as well - my clutch control isn’t what it could be, haha.

This cottage is in an excellent location close to the centre of Staithes. It is a very old building so it does come with its quirks as described. I know it wouldn't suit a large build or tall person. Communication with Jackie was excellent and quick response time. Also, even though it does have a parking spot right outside it is on a steep narrow road but you can park about 150m further down the road on level ground which suited us. It is located very close to the Cleveland Way path so ideal for walkers, overall we had a very pleasant break.

A wonderful stay at Fisherman's cottages! Cottage is clean and well-decorated in keeping with the setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and didn't want to return home! Highly recommend getting the fire going for a cosy, relaxing evening. Cobbles over the bridge do home-made takeaway pizzas until 8:30pm which is ideal. Highly recommend.

TRULY SPECIAL!! Well what can I say….this place is a hidden gem! To be honest, we had only seen the pictures of the sister cottage No. 5, and we were staying in No.4, which is smaller, but no way does it lack in charm or anything else (don’t expect a big kitchen…but we didn’t want to cook anyway..far too many places to eat and enjoy in the area) We have come home from 5 nights, and it has been a delight from start to finish. The cottage is quirky, authentic, and oozes history…and we wouldn’t want it to ever (Website hidden by Airbnb) partner said it’s his favourite staycation accommodation ever! It is in the BEST location, the pictures don’t even so it justice! I never wanted to leave the bench outside, morning tea with a view to die for! Everyone, including the delightful couple who have lived 2 doors down for 40+ years are super friendly and welcoming, and we used all the local shops, including the wonderful Chapel Yard Stores, Art Centre, and even a local house selling firewood! A stroll to both the George and Cod and Lobster pubs are a must! Mandy who is the housekeeper for the owner was so helpful, and communication brilliant! Great spot to explore Sandsend, Whitby, Runswick Bay and more….if you can tear yourself away from Staithes itself! We want to come back as soon as we can….and there will be only one place we will be booking!!! Just wonderful:) Thank you Jackie…for sharing this with us!

Lovely tiny characterful fisherman's cottage within easy walking distance of sea, shops and pubs. Good parking at the harbour. Only park outside cottage if you have a tiny car. Wonderful walks directly from the cottage via the Cleveland way. Book well in advance if you want to eat at either of the pubs - good food at both.

Just returned from a lovely weekend here, exploring Staithes and walking nearby. The cosy cottage is in the perfect location with gorgeous views (very Insta worthy), friendly neighbours, comfy bed and with everything on your doorstep, including great pub grub. We would highly recommend and look forward to hopefully returning.

A fabulous little cottage with beautiful view. The sun shone most of the day in the front. Perfect for 2 people and a little dog. Parking right outside is a real bonus as most visitors to Staithes have to park at the top and walk down. Very well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay including Smart TV.
TIP if you are intending to eat at The Cod and Lobster book weeks in advance of your visit as we did to avoid disappointment.
Also as we went out of season Staithes was very quiet, as we like it, but you might need to bring some food supplies as the only food shop (apart from the butchers) open when we visited was the Co op a short drive away.
All in all , a fabulous location , friendly locals, great walks and a cosy spot to come back to.

This is an absolute gem of a place in a magnificent little village on the North Yorkshire Coast. Comfortable, clean, unique, perfect for a couple wanting a break or for someone wanting time to themselves. Staithes and the Fisherman’s cottage is one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets. Jackie was a great host, leaving in depth information and was always quick to communicate when we needed to speak to her.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. Its was authentic, quaint and cosy. We enjoyed walking around the village the views and pubs. There are lots of lovely beaches close by, we visited Runswick Bay and Sandsend. We had some lovely walks and and most places are dog friendly. The 2 pubs in Staithes were both dog friendly. We would definatley go back.

Staying here was everything we hoped for and more. Sitting on a quiet street at the side of Staithes with its traditional decor and timeless character, the fisherman’s cottage transports you away from everyday life and urges you to take on a slower, more relaxing pace for a few days. We absolutely adored staying here; chatting to people as they wandered past as we drank coffee on the bench outside, and spending cosy evenings with a glass of wine chatting by the fire were highlights for us, as was meeting some of the locals by the harbour and eating lots of glorious (Email hidden by Airbnb) munication from start to finish was amazing; friendly, attentive and responsive, the house was spotless and check in and out seamless. We even got to meet Jackie by chance, who was as lovely in person as she is over message. All in all, we had the most wonderful time and were so sad to have to leave. We miss this quiet corner of the world and the beautiful fisherman’s cottage and hope to get the chance to return soon.

Great location. Great cottage. Lovely village. Not much more to say!
If you’re looking to get away and to relax it’s the perfect retreat. Close to lovely pubs and cafes and on the Cleveland Way for walking, Staithes is the place to unwind and the cottage has everything you need to do this. Clean with all you need to enjoy your stay, it was just what was needed. Thanks!

The cottage is comfortable and homely. The view is something else. We have a big car so parked down on the staithe without a problem. The hill is very steep, narrow and bendy! Try to arrive in day light! My mornings aren’t going to be the same without sitting looking out at the view while drinking my tea.

I'd had my eye on Old Jack's Cottage for quite some time...and when I spotted a last minute cancellation ...I booked it for a two night break immediately
If you enjoy staying somewhere totally (Website hidden by Airbnb) open fire of an evening... stunning views...coastal paths..great seafood and friendly locals you can't go wrong staying here!
It was just like stepping back in time... forget the car..take lots of amazing photos and make friends and family back home jealous.
Jackie the owner was staying
nearby...her enthusiasm to make our weekend break as enjoyable as possible was gratefully received. xx

Jackie's cottage was an absolute delight; check-in was very straightforward and we found everything we needed. The kitchen is fairly small but very well equipped, and with an extra butchers block table to prepare food on we had no trouble making meals in the cottage.
The location overlooking the little river into the harbour is perfect, especially as you can park your car right outside (unlike most of the properties across the bridge) and Staithes itself is such a friendly and beautiful village.
Can't wait to revisit Staithes in the future and wouldn't hesitate to stay in Jackie's cottage again!

Very cosy little cottage in an ideal location. The bench outside is perfect for breakfast in the morning sun, and passersby are happy to exchange a few words. We were there in September and the bench kept the sun until nearly 4pm which was very welcome. It is a delight to watch the ebb and flow of the tide. If you are a bit older, like us, you may find the bed a little small and the mattress quite firm. Being an old fisherman's cottage, everything is on the small side, but perfectly adequate for 2 people as long as you are not too tall! Jackie is an excellent host and the housekeepers are very helpful.

This is a gem. If you want flash modernistic sleekness, don’t come here. Leave it for those of us who love the quirky idiosyncrasies of an old fisherman’s cottage with all its history and the most magnificent views you can imagine. Throw in a pub with a heart and great food - Cod and Lobster - and you’re in heaven. A blissful few days in a place with no pretensions, comfortable and cosy, with a real feel for people.

This small beautiful, full of character cottage has not only a spectacular view but is also extremely well equipped. It's 1 minute from the town centre with 2 great pubs for eating and drinking, a spectacular Italian deli (a bit expensive) and some great local walks along the coast. A lovely little cottage, small but well kitted out with everything needed for a short stay. We did not attempt to cook in the tiny kitchen, but it was fine for breakfast and lunch with pub food in the village. The location is idyllic but you need to drive down a very steep and narrow road to get to it.

Just spent four nights with my wife and my fluffy Cavalier King Charles Bennie in this cozy old style cottage. We were really delighted. It's a small house so it is perfect for couples only. Easy check in, cleanliness excellent! Perfect location to enjoy the villa view with the dancing sea tide levels. Walking distance to the the main street and to the harbor. I recommend climbing the Cleveland way to the top for the magnificent view of the harbor and of the coast.

Small but perfectly formed - this cottage has everything you need for a relaxing break by the sea. It's in a super position, with great views and a quick walk to the beach. Be warned it's on a steep (but short) slope. Just consider the exercise an added bonus after a lovely meal at the Cod & Lobster!

Characterful & quirky little cottage in a lovely location including an all important parking permit needed while staying in the village.
Great to use as a ‘home base’ for days out walking and exploring the coastline.
The modern and clean kitchen is fantastically equipped to cater at home.
A little TLC in the rest of the house would perhaps not go amiss to up the comfort level for days/evenings in.
Smart TV and Smart Heating - with limitations & not so easy to navigate and use.
Ours was a Summer visit but imagine in the Winter months with the fire going it is quite a glowing & cosy snug.
Mandy & Keith are very friendly and excellent response time (literally minutes) to queries.
We look forward to a return in the Winter/Spring.

A lovely cosy cottage in a fantastic location across the footbridge from Staithes village. Everything is within walking distance, and the cottage makes a great place from which to head out in the village (worth booking the pubs in advance if you can during covid), and around North Yorkshire/Cleveland. Excelsior chippy is a must!

Our stay in Staithes exceeded our expectations! We had wonderful weather and sitting on the bench at the front of the cottage enjoying the harbour view was so relaxing and restoring.
The little cottage was perfect for our 4 night break and we wished we were staying longer. The parking space meant we could leave our bikes in the car.
The village has lovely pubs, cafes a butcher and a deli while still being small and not too busy (out of the school holidays anyway)
We had a lovely walk on the cliff path to Runswick Bay for a swim and there’s fabulous cycling on the Moors nearby

5 stars is not enough for the location , 10 stars would be better ! Even if you never got out of Staithes the view sitting outside the cottage would sustain you. The cottage is really snug and cosy and the dog loved the open fire in the cold evenings. Both the cottage and village still have that old world charm and relaxed feel that Robin Hoods Bay has sadly lost. I believe most of Jackie's customers are returning customers and I will be joining them, that's for sure.

The cottage was immaculate and welcoming. Communication with Jackie and the local housekeepers prior to our visit was very prompt, friendly and helpful. The location of the cottage and the view of the harbour is stunning. Very peaceful but with easy access to the village shops where we bought all our food and also fuel for the fire. We visited with our 7 month old daughter, due to the pandemic this was our first opportunity to get away as a family and was perfect for us. Plenty of nearby walks to take in the sea air and idyllic scenery. My only regret is that we didn't book to stay for a whole week.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend away staying at Old Jacks Cottage in Staithes. The cottage is in an ideal location with the most beautiful view to wake up to in the morning, and only a few minutes walk from the beach and pubs. Staithes is a magical place and a brilliant spot for exploring the area, although you could be just as happy relaxing in the village for a few stays. Fantastic cottage in a great location overlooking the river with views of the sea . The sun shone in during the morning and there was a perfectly positioned bench to sit and admire the view outside the front door . Lovely and warm and well equipped .
Staithes was charming with a couple of cafes and two pubs that do food. Bring some milk as we couldn’t find anywhere to buy milk down in the village. Also note no tea and coffee provided at the cottage. You can catch a bus from the top road towards Whitby and walk the coastal path 7 miles from Sandsend back to Staithes .
Communication went fine with hosts . Highly recommend .

I’ve never been to Staithes and was so looking forward to visiting. We were so blessed with great weather and the location of Jack Cottage was perfect. Being able to park outside was an added bonus. Perched on the sunny side of a hill, this fisherman’s cottage provided the perfect cosy retreat for our Winter stay - open log fire, comfy bed, thoughtfully decorated and with a beautiful view of Staithes and the sea.
We missed the advice on the listing to not book if you are over 6ft. However, my boyfriend is 6ft 2 and had no issues or bangs on the head. In fact, he absolutely loved the place!

We had a wonderful few days staying in no 5 Fisherman's Cottages. It is a perfect base to discover the beautiful seaside fishing village of Staithes and to explore further afield on the North Yorkshire moors.
It is a very cosy cottage but perfect for two people to share a romantic few days away - the views down over the harbour from the front room and bedroom window are beautiful. On a couple of rainy days, it was lovely to shut ourselves away, light the fire, snuggle up and read our books in the living room. The kitchen had everything we needed for a few days and we self-catered on a couple of evenings, picking up food from the coop at the top of the village (about 15 mins and a bit of a hill away). We enjoyed hearty meals in the Cod and Lobster and The Royal George (the steak and ale pie was amazing) on the other evenings. The smart heating system meant the house was always cosy and warm. The bathroom is small but very clean and functional. The bed was very comfy.
It was great to be able to park directly outside the cottage so that we could easily drive out of town on the days we decided to explore the moors. However, if you wanted to just stay in Staithes for a few days, we could easily have entertained ourselves in the shops, having tea and scones in lovely Dotty's and exploring the walking routes along the coast towards Whitby.
All communication we had with the owner was extremely prompt and helpful and all useful information was provided in advance of our arrival or was available in the house booklet on arrival. It was clear that Amanda was available in the village if we had any problems or queries at any time - luckily we didn't have any issues but she was extremely friendly and polite on the couple of times we emailed her.

A lovely stay in a comfortable cosy cottage. The bed was dreamily comfortable and all other facilities were good too. The location was peaceful on that side of town, yet a minutes walk into the centre. Parking was great to have outside but due to the gradient, not advised if your clutch or brakes are on the way out!
